About 11,000 unemployed persons from Gombe State will be recruited for the Special Public Works Programme (SPW) of the federal government slated to commence October 1.
The chairperson of the State Selection Committee, Mrs Abigail David Albashi, stated this on Monday in Gombe, while inaugurating members of the selection committee for the recruitment of the beneficiaries.
She said 1000 persons each would be recruited from the pool of unskilled residents of rural areas in the 11 LGAs of the state, to be paid an allowance of N20, 000 monthly for a period of three months.
She added that alongside the unskilled persons, 200 graduates among the participants would also be selected from each LGA.
Mrs Albashi explained that beneficiaries of the programme would be engaged in active community services that are peculiar to their respective local government areas and communities from October to December 2020.
“They would be engage community services like drainage digging and clearance, irrigation canals clearing, rural feeder road maintenance, traffic control, streets and cleaning of public infrastructure like healthcare centres and schools,” she explained.
The chairperson said the 11 LGAs would get exact number of1000 beneficiaries.
She added that the LGAs can tailor their programmes to meet their local needs and expectations.
She urged the committee to complete the selection process within two weeks, by adhering to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Labour and Employment through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
