After spending six months in its relief camp, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has discharged 300 displaced victims of the January 19th 2020 pipeline explosion.

Following the explosion, the displaced victims were relocated to Igando along LASU-Iba expressway on the order of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

To successfully close the chapter on the displaced victims, LASEMA has commenced the disbursement of financial assistance to the victims that are resident at the camp.

According to the Director-General/CEO of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the financial assistance was a follow-up to the skills acquisition and vocational training programme earlier carried out for the victims in order to aid their resettlement to the society.

“…Having developed marketable skills, they are now being provided with funds towards seed finding and rehousing/resettlement in more suitable areas.

“It is the pride of the agency to have fulfilled the promises rendered by the administration of Mr Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu and the entire agency wishes all the residents future success in their endeavours,” he said.

The skills acquisition programme was carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation of Lagos State Government last month.

The DG explained that the IDPs in the relief camp were assessed and divided into different programs.

Daily Trust reports that prior to leaving the camp, the agency worked with multiple agencies to ensure the safety and security of the 300 people (including 40 infants and 30 children) in the areas of full feeding and accommodation for all residents; transport and educational support for school aged children prior to the cessation due to COVID-19; full medical treatment including secondary care where required and antenatal care for pregnant women in partnership with Alimosho General Hospital
