Residents of Hunkuyi town in Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State have lamented that weed has taken over a renovated community market in the area after traders refused to rent shops because they had been sidelined in the allocation.
Our correspondent gathered that the modern community market was renovated three years ago as part of a federal constituency project and later allocated to people who were not traders.

Arewa Trust also observed that majority of the shops were locked with residents confirming the shops had been unoccupied since they were renovated and allocated to people with no interest in business.
The Sarkin Kasuwa, Ibrahim Haruna, explained to officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related offences Commission (ICPC), during a visit of tracking constituency projects that residents were sad to see the market in such a condition.
“The market was in a very bad condition with all the roofs damaged due to years of rain. Later, it was renovated and shops were allocated to people that have no interest in businesses in the market.
“Those who genuinely owned shops before the renovation were left out,”
“Now you can see how the market looks like because the traders refused to rent the shops from those people and the market has been taken over by weeds,” he said.
He urged the ICPC officials to inform the authorities concerned such as the district head and local government officials to allocate the shops back to genuine traders for utilisation.
