The vice chancellor said the late Wakili “had impacted positively in whatever he has done. It is a great loss not only to BUK but to the entire nation because he had the potential of doing a lot more as he has done in his lifetime”.

He added that late Wakili had lived a life worthy of emulation and prayed to Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward him with Jannatul Firdaus. He also conveyed the condolences of the Chief of staff to the president, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, who is the BUK Pro-Chancellor, as well as that of NUC Chairman, Prof. Rashid Abubakar.

On his part, the former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, described late Wakili as an epitome of humility and selfless service to humanity.

“Wakili was a kind of person who doesn’t disclose his good works, but his contributions are conspicuous for anyone to see,” Lamido said.

Also in his tribute, the former Kano State Deputy Governor, Prof Hafiz Abubakar said, “Our colleague, Haruna Wakili was a very good man who served humanity very well in various positions that he found himself. “We pray to Allah to bless his sole and bless the family he left behind.”

In his response, the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje said late Wakili was his close confidant with whom he had shared a lot of ideas for the development of the emirate. He said Wakili was a man who loved humanity, and he was particularly generous to his relatives.

Also, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has described Professor Haruna Wakili as “shocking, and one of the most difficult to bear.”

In a statement issued yesterday by Malam Abba Anwar, his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Ganduje further described Wakili’s death as devastating to the academia and the discipline of history.
