COVID-19: Gombe fumigates govt house, high risk areas

The Gombe State Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources said it has fumigated the Government House and other high risk areas in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

The Commissioner of Environment and Forest Resources, Dr. Hussaina Danjuma Goje, stated this at the weekend during a press conference to commemorate the World Environment Day.

She said the fumigation exercise to disinfect the Government House and other high risk areas in the state, will cover places such as mosques, churches, schools, markets and motor parks across the 11 local government councils.

Dr Hussaina added that as part of efforts to ensure that isolation and treatment centres were safe and risk of spread is minimised, the state government would continue to fumigate the centres and other high risks locations periodically.

The commissioner further said the government had taken measures to ensure proper evacuation of infectious waste at the isolation centres to prevent community spread of COVID-19 in the state.

She also said measures have been put in place for proper waste treatment process using incinerators.

She said: “We have two incinerators in our facilities and we have put measures in place to take away infectious wastes from all four isolation centres to incinerate and properly dispose them.”
