The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the last four and half years has provided befitting accommodation for 7,500 officers, a feat which he said has ensured many officers own and occupy decent residential buildings.
Air Marshal Abubakar who disclosed this at the weekend when he commissioned two newly constructed blocks of six three-bedroom flats for officers at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos, said the feat was made possible through partnership with reputable private companies.
The CAS, who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command (AOC LC), Air Vice Marshal Lawal Alao, said the delivery of the project was borne out of his commitment to improve the welfare of NAF personnel and boost their morale in the discharge of their duties.
He said, “In the last four and half years, while working to address the housing deficit for personnel, we have provided befitting accommodation for about 7,500 families.”
Daily Trust reports that the newly constructed blocks of flats were executed by TILT Construction Limited, a Nigerian civil and structural engineering company, serving as a trusted infrastructure partner to organisations in the private and public sectors.
The Managing Director (MD) of TILT, Mr. Jameel Olatunji, said during the NAF project, jobs were provided to skilled artisans and over 4,000-man hours were completed with no accident recorded.
Mr. Olatunji said, “This performance was not the result of chance; it was made possible through our continuous commitment to safety and efficiency. We are hopeful that these newly constructed residential buildings which are built with a touch of class; with all bedrooms en suite, will serve as motivation for personnel of the Air Force to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.”
