Development professionals and wellness firm BF-SUMA are backing the fight against Covid-19 in the north of Nigeria to provide immunity-boosting herbal medicines to the aged across the region.
The Africa Institute of Development Professionals (DevPro-Africa) in collaboration with BF-SUMA instituted a special intervention programme titled “Global Health COVID-19 Community Support Project 2020” comprised of experts in conventional and herbal medicine.
The Project Director of the organisation, Dr Mansur Mohammed Tukur, disclosed this in a weekly programme sponsored by the BF-SUMA on Arewa Radio Kano.
“After some research, observations and deliberations we found out that, with herbal medicine that help in boosting immune system, we can actually help the aged people in this period of pandemic in Kano, Kastina and other states in the northern part of the country,” he said.
“We have written to 19 northern governors informing them of collaboration between BF-SUMA and African Institute of Development Professionals (DevPro-Africa) to provide the northern states with alternative intervention toward COVID-19.
“Our interventions would include preaching COVID-19 awareness, safety measures, recruit 100 volunteers in each state to execute the plan and provide immune boosting herbal medicines produced by BF-SUMA to the aged people in the 19 states in northern Nigeria” Tukur added.
The chairman BF-SUMA Kano and the Country Director of the Special Intervention Project, Mohammed Hassan, said the mandate of the company has been to explore the health benefits of herbal medicine in boosting immune system and create more awareness to the people especially the old.
“We are worried by the situation of COVID-19 spread in Kano, neighbouring states and other states in the northern region. We are also worried about the situation of the aged people in these states. We found that this intervention is not just necessary but also humane.
“When immune system is strong, it can fight diseases by itself. Using our herbal medicine at primary levels means taking our health responsibilities by ourselves. We have in the past four years been creating awareness and presenting this alternative to the people. This pandemic is reemphasizing our gestures toward boosting immune system” he said.
He advised Nigerians to comply with the health advises on the protective measures and social distancing to avoid spreading the novel coronavirus.
