The Department of Development Control of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has urged construction companies operating in the FCT to strictly adhere to safety measures in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Director of the department, Alhaji Mukhtar Galadima, in a statement released guidelines for construction sites, including public institution sites, in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the FCT.
Alhaji Mukhtar said, “The concerned entities are hereby urged to be guided and ensure full compliance to the guidelines in order to avoid the relevant sanctions which include sealing of sites and possible prosecution.”
He further said, “All workers on construction sites must observe social/physical distancing of not less than two metres, including other relevant safety measures, and all workers and visitors to construction sites are required to compulsorily wash and sanitise their hands prior to entering and leaving the sites.”
The director added that construction sites of a single structure or a residential building should not have more than eight workers, while commercial buildings should not have more than 15 workers.
He further explained that, “Construction sites of multiple structures and major commercial and residential estates shall not have more than 35 workers or as may be determined by the council.”
He, therefore, urged the general public to report any contravention of the provisions of the guidelines by any construction site to the Department of Development Control for prompt action.
