The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a volunteer security guard, Suleiman Tajudeen, who allegedly shot a bus driver at Eyenkorin area of Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday.
The deceased bus driver, Ahmed Idowu, was shot dead on Tuesday night after beating the government lockdown order and entering Ilorin from Ibadan.
He was stopped at a checkpoint being manned by volunteer security guards at Eyenkorin.
Tajudeen, the security guard, who was said to have shot and killed the driver, fled the scene after the shooting.
Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, however, denied media reports that it was a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria that shot Idowu dead.
He said based on the preliminary investigation, Idowu drove the commercial bus through a bush path and he was flagged down by the local security men at Alagbado community at Eiyenkorin, and in the course of an argument, he was shot dead.
“Investigation is still on while the Commissioner of Police has directed the State CID to take up the investigation. Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested by dogged detectives attached to the command” he said.
