The leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC, Kano), on Tuesday, said hundreds of people died in Kano municipality in less than two weeks.
Doguwa, at the resumed plenary of the house, sponsored a motion calling intervention on the health crisis and the rising death toll in the state.
He said despite the fact that Kano State is the most populated state in the country, it had only one testing centre which was also shut down for about a week due to lack of some testing materials and reagents.
He urged the Federal Government to address the rising cases of unexplained deaths in the state, scale up the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic and establish at least one testing centre in each of the 36 states to save them from the scenario being witnessed in Kano State.
Deputy Minority Leader Toby Okechukwu (PDP, Enugu), said: “It’s Kano State today, it could be any other state tomorrow. We must get it right and put an end to coronavirus”.
The house called for an investigation into the circumstances that led to the rising death being recorded in Kano State.
