A 51-year-old medical doctor who was said to be treating a COVID-19 patient died yesterday after allegedly contracting the virus from the patient at a private hospital.

The doctor died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, becoming the first medical personnel to die of the deadly virus.

It was learnt that the doctor was rushed to LASUTH on Monday from his private hospital which was not disclosed.

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of  LASUTH, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, confirmed that the deceased was rushed to the hospital after showing symptoms of COVID-19, adding that he was not a staff of the hospital. He did not give details of the hospital and identity of the deceased.
