The House of Representatives will investigate the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on how funds allocated for basic education in the country are being utilised.
There are allegations that funds meant for school infrastructure were either diverted or pocketed by officials.
The House mandated its committee on Basic Education to probe utilisation of the funds in the last 10 years.
These were part of the resolutions sequel to the motion moved by the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila at a special plenary session.
The committee was also expected to avail the House of the status of all projects being executed by UBEC across the country.
It would also find out the current number of out-of-school children in the country as well as the number in each of the 36 states and the FCT.
The committee would report back to the House in eight weeks’ time after which the House would hold a special public hearing with stakeholders on the issue of out-of-school children in the country with a view “to identifying the cultural, religious, social and economic factors responsible for the menace”.
In the same vein, the House would also commence the process of amending the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act.
