The closure of Nigerian judiciary as part of preventive measures to COVID-19 has stalled continuation of hearing on the trial of suspected killers of Major Gen. Idris Alkali (rtd).
Daily Trust reports that in the last sitting, the prosecution counsel, Joe-kyari Gadzama, had told Jos High Court that he was taking steps to include the principal suspect in the murder, who has been at large, urging the court to adjourn the case to March 24th and 25th, 2020 for application for bail and amendment of charges.
Our correspondent reports that judges were absent at the state High Court on the adjourned date due to the directive given by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Muhammad Tanko to close down all courts in the country as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The court in this regard has fixed 26, 27 and 28 April for continuation of hearing on the matter.
It would be recalled that late General Alkali was declared missing on September 3rd, 2018 on his way from Abuja to Bauchi via Jos.
However, it subsequently manifested that he was attacked and killed in Dura-Du village of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau, and his vehicle was recovered from a pond in the village on September 29, 2018.
His body was found two days later on October 31 in a well in Guchwet village of Shen district of Jos South LGA.
