The suspected case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Katsina State has turned out negative, the state ministry of health has said.
Katsina state government had announced, last Wednesday, a first suspected case of coronavirus, promising to make the result of the test public today.
The patient, who was in self isolation, returned from Malaysia and developed symptoms that warranted further investigations.
Briefing newsmen this morning, the state commissioner for health, Engr Yakubu Danja, said the result of the test was negative, adding that no confirmed case of the virus in Katsina “for now”.
He advised residents to be calm and get constant updates about the disease.
Danja also called on them to avoid spreading unverified information, especially through the social media, concerning the virus.
While calling for high level of personal and environmental hygiene from the people, he enjoined them to; “use alcohol base sanitisers, practicing cough etiquette and avoiding mass social gathering except where necessary.”
He assured that government will continue to do everything possible to safeguard their health.
