A group of concerned parents and educators has urged the federal government to as a matter of urgency organise a national conference on education to improve the standard school curriculum.
The group, Concerned Parents and Educators (CPE) initiative, noted that the curriculum conference would involve representatives of all professions including doctors, architects, engineers, accountants, parents, teachers, students and policy makers who would give their inputs on basic and secondary education.
The proprietress of Greater Height School, Lagos, Mrs. Ifueko Thomas, who is also a member of CPE, had in a separate development said a nation is as good as its curriculum.
While speaking on the topic, ‘How to Create a Curriculum that Serves the need of the Society,’ she said, “We don’t have a Nigerian curriculum. What we have is a list of subjects with no clue. We must have a curriculum that is relevant to our society and worthwhile.”
The founder of CPE, Mrs Yinka Ogunde, also stressed the need for a curriculum review conference, saying stakeholders must play their roles.
