The Chairman of Kebbi State Chapter of National Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Comrade Ibrahim Sama, has made a passionate appeal to the state government to provide scholarship to his members to enable them study both at home and abroad.
Sama, made the appeal on Tuesday while speaking to Caliphate Trust in Birnin Kebbi.
He said many of his members that were willing to go to higher institutions but could not afford the fees being charged.
Sama, who was recently elected as the chairman of the association, also decried the lack of representation in government, saying in some states people with special need were adequately represented in government which helped them to address their needs.
He also said his members were still suffering from discrimination when they seek for employment into the state’s civil service
“This is the time that we must make a passionate appeal to the Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, to give a special consideration to people with special need particularly, award of special scholarship as a lot of them are willing to obtain higher certificates but the means is not there.
“I must use this medium to also call on the state government to give equal right to people with disabilities. Some of our members are denied employment despite having the requisite papers.”
