FG to prosecute parents of out-of-school children

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, says parents of out-of-school children are likely to be prosecuted.

The minister said this in Abuja yesterday while meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services.

He said part of the strategies to deal with the menace was sensitization of traditional rulers and encouraging states to invest more in basic education.

He suggested establishment of an education watch group or task force to ensure that children were in school.

“Denying a child basic education is crime against humanity,” Adamu said.

He said while many African countries allocated the lion’s share of their budgets to education, Nigeria allocated merely 10 percent.

Adamu said the ministry received N120 to feed students in unity colleges per meal instead of N200.
