The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has said that 75 persons arrested in connection with the bloody clash between two rival cult groups on last Sunday and Monday would be charged with murder.
Two cultists were killed during the fracas, which occurred at the Aguda and Ijesha areas of the Lagos metropolis.
Odumosu said other charges to be preferred against the suspects included vandalism and robbery.
The identities of the suspects were not revealed.
The Lagos State police boss disclosed that the suspects destroyed 22 shops and vandalised many vehicles of innocent people during the melee in which the suspects freely used weapons like guns, cutlasses and broken bottles.
The police boss said the fight actually began on Sunday December 15, 2019 at about 11.41 am where some suspected cultists from Ijesha invaded the Pako Aguda canal area, shooting sporadically.
“A member of the Ijesha cult gang, identified as Alagodo, 27, was killed during the shooting. The situation was brought under control. Seventy five suspects from both sides were arrested. Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court,” Odumosu added.
