Barely 10 days after Daily Trust published a story on a 42-year-old dilapidated Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Dadin-Kowa in Gombe State, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has visited the school to assess the level of infrastructural decay.
The visit followed Daily Trust report on December 3 headlined ‘Inside Gombe School where students share hostels with bats.’
The governor lamented the state of the school’s infrastructure and blamed previous administrations in the state for the poor condition of the institution.
“Ever since I read the school’s pathetic state in Daily Trust Newspaper about a week ago, I resolved to pay an unscheduled visit to the school so as to validate what I read and take the necessary action.
“What I saw today after being conducted round is appalling and beyond imagination. The deplorable facility here is not far from prison. In fact prison is even better. With this poor learning environment, I wonder how a child studying here will have the desired knowledge for a brighter future,” he said.
He however vowed that his administration will take prompt action to revive the school to a model with modern educational facilities that can compete favourably with others across the country.
