FG to support commercial academic publishers

The Federal Government has pledged more support to commercial printers and academic publishers to enable them stay alive in the evolving digital landscape.

Minister of Education Adamu Adamu who stated this when a delegation of Academy Press PLC, visited him in Abuja, said the decision of government to upgrade the sector was in line with its policy of local content usage.

The minister said government would make the industry productive through the creation of more enabling policies.

Chairman, Academy Press, Mr. Wahab Dabiri had earlier called on government to come to the aid of the industry just like manufacturing and agricultural sectors, adding that the print and publishing sector which provides jobs and improve revenue is producing below capacity.

Also, Managing Director, Academy Press, Gbenga Ladipo, pleaded with policy makers to reduce tariff on locally produced books “which is as high as 35% while imported books are at zero tariff.”
