Suspected fraudster, hemp dealer nabbed in Katsina

A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Katsina State for allegedly duping unsuspecting traders by sending them fake bank SMS alerts after collecting their goods.

The suspect was identified as Musa Isah, of Kwado Quarters, in Katsina metropolis.

The spokesman of the command, SP Gambo Isah, said nemesis caught up with the suspect when he went to the shop of one Alhaji Adamu Rabi’u, at Kwado Quarters, Katsina, deceived him and collected three Chinese doors valued N57,000 and paid him through a fake bank SMS alert.

In the course investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to have duped and collected goods worth thousands of Naira saying that “two months ago he collected a generator from Abbas Plaza Katsina valued at N120,000 through fake bank SMS alert and Al-Ihsan Great Infinity Boutique where he deceived and collected clothes valued N21,000 using the same modus operandi”.

“On 5/10/2019 he went to the shop of one Alh. Alin Kwai, at Chake market, Kofar Guga Katsina, deceived and collected bags of rice, cooking oil and Macaroni valued N65,000 by sending fake bank SMS alert. Investigation is ongoing”, Isah said

In a related development, the spokesman said the command, “On 8/12/2019 at about 1700:00hrs, based on a tip off, arrested one Auwalu Abdullahi, 25, of Maraban Maigora village, Sabuwa LGA of Katsina state, a notorious Indian hemp dealer, in possession of two 50kg bags containing dried leaves reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp while on transit along Dandume -Funtua road.

“In the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to be a dealer of Indian hemp operating at Dandume and Sabuwa LGAs of Katsina State,” the police spokesman said.
