28-year-old man allegedly robs, kills a banker

An Ikeja chief magistrate court in Lagos yesterday remanded an unemployed man, Yusuf Folawiyo, in custody at the Correctional Service, Kirikiri, for alleged robbery and murder of a banker, John Dunkwu.

Folawiyo, of 19, Elewude Street, Abule Ijo, Ogun State, is facing a three-count of conspiracy, robbery and murder before Chief Magistrate A. O. Akinde.

Akinde refused to take the defendant’s plea after the prosecutor read the charge against him.

She ordered that he should be remanded in custody until December 4, 2019 pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The police prosecutor, Chekube Okeh, told the court that Folawiyo committed the offences on March 15, 2019 at 52, College Road, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.

Okeh said that Folawiyo and others still at large went to Dunkwu’s bakery to rob him of his Motorola phone valued at N60,000, and thereafter shot him.

“The victim died before he could be taken to the hospital,” she said.

Okeh also said that the victim’s wife, Mrs Oluwatoyin Dunkwu, lodged the complainant at the police station.

The prosecutor said the phone of the deceased was later tracked to the defendant.
