Ogun Monarch challenges companies to wade in infrastructure deficit

A traditional ruler in Ogun State, Oba Kazeem Olaonipekun Gbadamosi has challenged companies operating in the state to assist government by providing necessary infrastructure to their host communities.

Oba Gbadamosi, who is the Ologijo of Ogijo, said this would further create a mutual and peaceful coexistence between companies and their host communities.

He spoke when a company operating in his domain, Everest Metal Nigeria Limited, donated a 500 KVA transformer and 100 electricity poles to the Ipetoro and Ewu Oruku Communities in Sagamu LGA of the state.

The two farming communities have never been connected to electricity before now.

According to him, the responsibility of developing the country should not be left to governments alone if Nigeria is to move forward.

“For the country to progress, in terms of infrastructure it behoves companies and wealthy individuals to complement government’s effort in terms of provision of infrastructure,” Gbadamosi stated.

The Monarch appealed to the Federal and State governments to find a cheaper way of generating power. He said, “In Nigeria we have a lot of wastes but we are definitely not making use of these wastes, some waste can be used to generate electricity.”

Gbadamosi commended Everest Metal Nigeria Ltd for providing electricity in the remote communities.

The company’s Managing Director, Vikas Das, said he was delighted and that with the donation, the affected communities “would now have a feel of what electricity looks like.”

Also speaking, a representative of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Mr Leslie Adogane, who influenced the donation of the project said, “When Ipetoro team rushed to us and they said the company (Everest Mental Nigeria Ltd) was polluting their environment, we told them that we would  engage and discuss with the company. I am glad to tell you that this is the result (donation) of our efforts.”
