Women in Borno State are to acquire training on leadership and conflict resolution to enable them mediate in conflict and negotiate for peace in their respective communities.
The training is to be conducted by an International NGO, Search For Common Ground, funded by the government of Japan.
Tamwakat Golit, gender specialist working on strengthening resilience project with the INGO told newsmen in Maiduguri that the beneficiaries if the training would be selected from IDP camps and host communities to represent their respective local government areas.
Golit spoke after the INGO, in conjunction with UN Women, another INGO, distributed occupational equipments to over 500 women drawn from Mafa and Jere local government areas of the state.
The distribution of the equipment was the culmination of a 6-week training during which they acquired various skills like sewing and grinding food items, after which they were divided into 26 IGA (income generating activity) cooperative groups of 20 each.
Drawn from IDP camps and host communities, the beneficiaries were also trained on financial literacy and micro enterprise and business development.
Among the equipment distributed were sewing and knitting machines; tomato grinding and groundnut processing machines as well as soap-Mali g materials.
