Govt urged on smart campuses for improved education

To bring about a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s public education system, government has been urged to plan for smart campuses of learning across public schools.

President General of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), Arch. Charles Majorah made the call at the recent 8th National Dinner of association in Abuja.

At the event which was also a fundraiser for the school ICT-Smart Campus Project, Majorah said the reality of today makes smart campuses an imperative for any society that seeks relevance in the near future.

“Going smart in public schools demands a public sector management that is ready to raise the standards,” he noted. Majorah explained that the school smart campus idea will see GCUOBA deploy ICT facilities over the next few years so that the students can compete favourably with their peers across the world.

He also called on the old boys and girls association to collaborate on a more sustainable basis so as to build collegiate association that can serve as a pressure group to push for increased public sector interest in public schools.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Joy Ogwu, a former minister of foreign affairs while several persons received the lifetime achievement awards at the event.
