The Dr Joseph Folurunsho-led Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Lokoja (FUL) chapter, has appealed to the federal government and other well-meaning stakeholders to intervene in addressing issues the union is having with the university management.
Dr Folurunsho, who addressed a press conference at the university, alleged that the management failed to promote staff members between 2016 and 2018 forcing the union to take “non-active compliance approach” in May 2018 before it “reluctantly” promoted staff in July 2019.
He also alleged that the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) released to various universities by the federal government has not been fully paid to its members, alleging that over N2 million of the amount was still with the university management.
But reacting on behalf of the management, the Registrar, Suleiman Usman Obansa, described the allegations by the Dr Folorunsho-led ASUU as false, misleading, mischievous and aimed at misinforming the general public on the prevailing situation in the university.
On the issue of EAA, he said all deserving staff of the institution as recommended by the implementation committee set up for the purpose and chaired by ASUU and representatives of other unions in the university have since been paid.
He also said no N2 million was withheld by the management as alleged.
On promotion, he said the management has since completed the promotion of both academic and non-academic staff across various cadres from 2016 to 2018 as published in the current bulletin of the university. He said the promotion exercise for 2019 is at its final stage.
