The United Arab Emirates has launched a new initiative under the Women Empowerment Initiative of the country.
During the inauguration of the vocational training programme in Abuja on Friday, the Ambassador of the UAE to Nigeria, Dr. Fahad Al-Taffaq, stated that $322 million had been allocated for humanitarian activities focused on women, noting that it comes at a time when many nations have failed to take action in terms of equality of women.
“The program is aimed at providing a platform for women’s social development and sustainability. This will allow them to acquire valuable skills aimed at promoting self-reliance, employment creation and poverty alleviation amongst women in the society.
“This laudable initiative is organised by the UAE embassy in Abuja in collaboration with Sharjah Charity International, a UAE based charity organisation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abu Dhabi,” he said.
The ambassador also called on the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, as every contribution is important to the development of Nigeria.
