The Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has promised to collaborate with the federal government, and elected members to attract more federal projects to Akoko Zone in Ondo state.
Speaking when he received a delegation of some Obas from Akoko, led by Olukare of Ikare-Akoko, Akadri-Yusuf Momoh, the Speaker said they will bring more federal presence to the area through roads and other projects.
He commended the delegation for their visit adding that the visit was the first royal visit to him from the South West since he became the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He said: “you represent the first set of Obas to visit the House of Representatives, since I became Speaker. I consider you traditional heads, the fourth arm of the realm”.
Gbajabiamila also praised the quality of representatives from Ondo saying that he appointed Tunji Ojo, a member from the state as Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) which he said was part of his commitment to the well-being of Ondo and its people.
According to him, Ojo’s appointment was to ensure equity and justice, because Ondo is an Oil producing state adding that, until the appointment, only members from the South-South had headed the Committee since 1999.
Speaking earlier, the Akoko Obas lamented that their area is being ‘short-changed’ in terms of projects.
They called on the federal government to establish a tertiary institution in their domain and also construct roads.
“We don’t have good roads; we don’t have federal representation in the area; we want a College of Education in Ondo and federal roads”, Olukare disclosed.
