Man, 26, remanded in prison over alleged cultism

An Ado-Ekiti magistrate court yesterday remanded a 26-year-old man, Gbenga Olowonyo, in prison over alleged cultism.

Olowonyo, whose address wasn’t given, is standing trial on a charge of cultism.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence in Oke-Imesi, Aramoko Ekiti district.

Apata alleged that Olowonyo was apprehended with his members and had confessed to the police that he was a member of the Eiye confraternity secret cult.

The prosecutor said the case file had been duplicated and forwarded to the office of the Ondo State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The defendant’s plea was not taken in court.

The magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the DPP.

Awosika adjourned the case till October 22, 2019 for mention.
