An environmentalist and fund raising coordinator of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Gombe State, Yusuf Musa Danbayo, has sponsored the planting of over 1000 trees across the state to help check erosion and desertification in the state.
He has planted several trees at the Gombe State University, Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State Media (GMC), National Television Authority (NTA), Gombe and a host of other places, a statement said.
Speaking at the, 2019 tree planting event at the Federal University, Kashere Detachment, Danbayo advised the people of the state to imbibe the act of planting trees so as to avoid the devastating effect of desertification and erosion.
He noted that the state is faced with the problems of erosion and desertification, and that one of the easiest and most common means of curbing the problem was by planting trees.
According to the statement, Danbayo is also sponsoring a tree planting event of ‘Arewan Mu, Mutanen Mu’ at the Federal College of Education, Gombe in which he has donated 210 different varieties of trees and flower seedlings.
He has been planting trees across the state since its creation; and encouraging the people to imbibe the practice, the statement said.
