Hawkers have now become a popular fixture in Abuja especially along major busy roads with heavy traffic and popular bus stops in urban centres. Some of the common places these hawkers are usually found are Berger junction, Area 1 and Area 3 junctions, Wuse Zone 6, Kubwa-Zuba express road, Wuse 2 and their environs. It’s safe to say hawking has become part of the Federal Capital’s economic activities. Hawking is not so much the problem but some of the hawkers who use the opportunity to commit crimes. There are now incidents of valuables being snatched in traffic in Abuja, windows being smashed and so on. This is all quite unpalatable. The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has to look into these cases and find a lasting solution to the ever increasing rates of hawkers in Abuja.
