Protests and reactions have continued to trail the Xenophobic attacks on Africans in South Africa by various groups in Kaduna state.
A coalition of civil society groups during a protest in Kaduna on Wednesday told the Federal Government and other African governments to suspend all relationships with the Government of South Africa, until a convincing assurance is given that such dastardly act would not repeat itself.
Addressing the press during the protest on the killings of not only Nigerians but Africans in general in South Africa, convener, Yusuf Amoke said enough is enough on the xenophobic killings in South Africa.
He called on the Nigerian Government to seek for compensation from the South African Government to the families of the victims and to those whose businesses were destroyed and requested for an African Union emergency meeting to take a decisive position and sanction the South African Government for being unable to put an end to this reccurring decimal in their country.
He further asked the Nigerian Government to institute all necessary logistical preparations for lifting willing Nigerians back home as well as sanction South African business environment in Nigeria by temporarily shutting them down until certain agreements are reached.
Similarly, Deputy Director, Rigar ‘Yanci International Foundation for the Less Privileged, Usman Musa, called on Nigerians to stay calm, maintain peace within the country and allow the Federal government to intervene on the ongoing crisis in order to find a solution to the problem.
He said, “The people of South Africa should know that Nigerians are not their problems, so killing them or burning their properties will never be a solution to their problems and they should stop the killings and burning of properties of Nigerians.”
He called on the South African Government to provide adequate security to Nigerian and their properties and urged citizens of the country to stay together irrespective of religion, tribe and differences saying, “We should live together as one Nigeria and avoid any form of violence and crisis within our various States and sustain peace in our dear country.”
The Middle Belt Region Conciliation Group, Initiative for Conciliation and Right Protection ICRP- Nigeria, Comrade Godwin Ekoja has called on the authorities in South Africa to act quickly and effectively in protecting Nigerian citizens as well as other foreigners in their country, from the deadly Xenophobic attack by their citizens.
He then called on Nigerians not to take laws into their hands in attacking South African Companies and South African citizens in Nigeria.
He added, “At this hard time that Nigeria is battling with insecurity across the country, we are calling on the Nigerian Government to handle the issue of the Shia Muslims and their detained leader Sheikh El-Zakzaky with care, shun all discrimination against them and give dialogue a chance as they have suffered the bitterness of discrimination and loss of lives while many of them are devoted Nigerians.”
“We advise the Nigerian Government to work hard towards providing jobs and business opportunities for all Nigerians and encourage inter faith/Inter-ethnic dialogues for a better Nigeria as the success of Nigeria is in the unity of its people.”
