APC chair disowns gov’ship aspirant in Kogi LG

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, retired Major David Samuel, has denied issuing any letter to Barr. Babatunde Irukera, a governorship aspirant of the party who hails from the area.

At a press conference, yesterday in Lokoja, the Yagba West APC chairman said a letter trending on the social media allegedly written by him after receiving some funds never emanated from him.

“In the said letter, Barr. Babatunde Ayokunle Irukera claimed to have been responsible for the payment of rent for the party secretariat in Odo-Ere and payment of staff salaries of the APC in the council among others,” the chairman said.

Daily Trust recalled that the APC screening committee for the Kogi governorship contest had disqualified 12 of the aspirants including Irukera over alleged irregularities.

According to Major Samuel, “to the best of my knowledge, as the APC chairman for Yagba West Local Government Area, I wish to state clearly that I have never received a penny from Barr. Irukera, either directly or by proxy, since my assumption of office.”
