Sokoto agog for wedding of Sultan’s daughter

Preparations are in high gear in Sokoto for the wedding of Princess Fatima, the daughter of Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar today.

The wedding Fatiha of the princess and Mahmoud Yuguda, son of former Bauchi State governor, Isah Yuguda, is scheduled to hold at the Sultan Bello Jumaat mosque, Sokoto. Today is also the birthday of the sultan.

Roundabouts have been renovated and major streets were given face-lifts to give the town a new look.

The Coordinator, Local Organising Committee of the ceremony, Alhaji Tafida Sarkin Fadan Sokoto, disclosed that sub-committees have been set up to ensure the success of the wedding.

He called for support for a hitch-free celebration, noting that important dignitaries from within and outside the country are expected to grace the occasion.

Militiamen attack Wukari, Donga, kill many

Armed militiamen yesterday attacked three towns  in Wukari and Donga local government areas of Taraba State, killing many people.

The militiamen according to reports from the area also abducted one Mrs. Larai Danazumi and her son.

A source in Donga, Mr. Dauda Bako, told Daily Trust that they attacked Mdema town along Donga_Suntai road and Tor Damisa, all in Donga LGA. The attackers, it was gathered, killed many people, set houses ablaze and looted property.

He added that soldiers and policemen were drafted to the towns and chased the attackers away. The road from Donga to Rafin Kada was said to be deserted.

Daily Trust also gathered that Tor-Iorshaegher village along Rafin Kada-Wukari road in Wukari LGa was also attacked.   The militiamen, according to reports, burned a community primary school and many houses. The   spokesman of Taraba State police command, DSP David Misal, could not be reached as his line was switched off when our reporter called before press time.
