Director General of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Dan-Azumi Mohammed Ibrahim, has been appointed as chairman of the Government, Academia and Industry Board of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.
This appointment was announced by the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, at the University Research Day conference tagged ‘Greening Academia/Industry Research Synergy to Promote Sustainable Development in Nigeria’, held recently at the university, a statement by the Ag, Head Public Relations and Protocol Unit, (NOTAP), Raymond Onyenezi Ogbu, has said.
The VC, while inaugurating the board, said NOTAP was very strategic to the development of Science and Technology and Innovation (STI) in the country, adding that Dr. Ibrahim’s wealth of knowledge and experience in Industry and academia linkage will boost the institution’s drive to technological development.
He said the university had watched closely the activities of NOTAP under the director general and has firmly resolved that with a technocrat of his calibre chairing the board, the sky will be the starting point in terms of inventive and innovative activities expected to be carried out in the university.
The VC further stated that the DG had shown strong commitment to his duties and responsibilities with regards to strengthening the strategic relationship between government, academia and industry in the development of programmes and projects.
Earlier in his acceptance speech, the director general said he was humbled by the appointment considering the fact that IUA was a pioneer privately owned university in Nigeria, established in 1999, with focus on teaching, research and entrepreneurship.
He added that the technological growth and development of Nigeria as a nation should be the collective responsibility of every Nigerian irrespective of his or her ethnic or religious affiliation.
He thanked the vice chancellor and the university community for the honour and promised to do his best to ensure that the confidence reposed in him and the board was achieved.
