The Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Muhammed Sambo has said healthcare delivery occupied the largest space for national development.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day management committee retreat in Kaduna on Tuesday, the ES said health care delivery is important in the global development agencies adding that the scheme has a presidential mandate to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all.
He said it is part of their mandate to ensure Nigerians have access to quality healthcare financial protection and the new NHIS has taken the step to achieve that.
“20 years after the establishment of the scheme, there have been several challenges that impedes meeting the objectives of the scheme such as high turnover of CEOs, lack of internal cohesion between implementing units, incessant squabbles and union activities among other.”
Prof Sambo said, to meet the obligations of the scheme, he unfolded a three-points agenda
He also said that the scheme has the presidential mandate to achieve UHC and that is why the signing of the Bill for such and also making NHIS very compulsory for everyone to be able to achieve the coverage.
