Awori monarchs seek more positions for indigenes in Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet

Awori traditional rulers from different parts of Lagos State have called on the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to consider more indigenes for nomination in the governor’s cabinet.

The traditional rulers made the call yesterday in Ikotun, Lagos, at a briefing organised by Awori monarchs (Obas) in Lagos State.

The Ojomu of Ajiranland, Oba Tijani Akinloye, who spoke on behalf of other traditional rulers, lamented that out of the 25 names designated for Commissionership and Special Advisers roles in the Sanwo-Olu administration, only two Awori indigenes were listed.

“We, Awori indigenes, want to use this medium to unequivocally remind the Lagos State government that the Aworis are not happy with the way we are being marginalised in the state, despite our population and for the fact that we are the original settlers in the state. Sadly enough, we are not being accorded our rightful position in the governance of the state.

“We are hereby looking forward to see the appointment of another set of Awori indigenes, who are young, vibrant and qualified. As we know, we have many of them who are professionals, politicians and technocrats, many of who worked tirelessly during the campaign for the success of the party in Lagos State.

“We should remind ourselves that participation in politics is anchored on the desire to use it as a route to be appointed and elected to serve your own people and bring development closer to them,” Oba Akinloye said.
