The Kwara State Police Command yesterday evening rescued the four Turks kidnapped at Gwugwu in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, told newsmen alongside the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Mr Adisa Login, that the rescue was facilitated with the support of the Inspector General of Police team and local vigilantes.
“The command has been working round the clock since they were abducted with the local vigilantes and the IGP rescue and intelligence team, our own anti-kidnapping and anti-robbery squad as well as a Fulani group in the area,” he said, adding that four of the gang members were arrested while others are still at large.
According to him, the kidnappers initially demanded N400m ransom which was later reduced to N100m but no ransom was paid.
While thanking everyone involved in the rescue operation, Egbetokun said the abductees would be flown to Abuja immediately.
