Rafa Benitez has left Newcastle United, according to the club.
The Magpies had hoped to tie Benitez down to a new contract with his current contract expiring this summer.
But talks have proven unsuccessful with Newcastle confirming he will depart on June 30.
A club statement read: “It is with disappointment that we announce manager Rafael Benítez will leave Newcastle United upon the expiry of his contract on 30th June 2019.
“We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time. However, it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives.”
The former Liverpool boss Benitez joined the club in 2016 but failed to avoid relegation.
He secured promotion back to the Premier League the following season and has delivered 10th and 13th placed finish.
Benitez repeatedly bemoaned a lack of ambition and funds at Newcastle as he tried to take the club up the table.
And after a complete breakdown in relations with Mike Ashley, he has decided to walk away.
