The Federal Government through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has flagged off repair and maintenance works on part of the Lagos-Badagry expressway amidst excitement from road users.

The repair works would commence from Kilometre 20 up to kilometre 32, according to FERMA Managing Director Engr. Nuruddeen Rafindadi who flagged off the work at Igboelerin area along the expressway.

The contract was awarded to Wizchino Engineering Ltd at the cost of N3.609 billion and a completion period of 18 months.

Daily Trust reports that the road has been divided into three sections. The first phase, from Eric Moore in Lagos to Okokomaiko (Channel zero to 20), is being handled by the Lagos State Government; the second phase, Kilometre 20 to 32 (Okokomaiko- Agbara) is being undertaken by FERMA while the Federal Ministry of Works is to handle the largest chunk of the project, from Agbara (kilometre 32) up to Seme border.

It would be recalled that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had immediately on assumption of office ordered the contractor to return to site on the section being handled by the state.

However, findings by Daily Trust showed that the contractor is yet to resume work on the Lagos section.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Works Mr. Sina Thorpe told our correspondent that the contractor would move to site as instructed by the governor before this month end.

The FERMA boss assured that with the flag off of the repair works, within the next “few weeks”, motorists and road users would begin to see improvement on the road from Okokomaiko to Agbara.
