When a stranger enters your home without permission it is expected they have one intention in mind – to steal something.
But when a mystery intruder entered Nate Roman’s home while he was out, they didn’t take a thing. Instead they decided to do a spot of spring cleaning. Nate, 44, told the Boston Globe he instantly noticed a stranger had been in his Marlborough, Massachusetts, home when he returned from work on May 15. To his shock – and maybe delight – he noticed the beds were made, rugs had been vacuumed, and the toilets had been scrubbed.
They even crafted hand-made origami roses on the toilet paper rolls. Trying to solve the mystery, Nate said he could have left his back door unlocked, as the stranger didn’t show any signs of breaking into his home. His latest theory is perhaps a house cleaning service went to his home by mistake. But he still found the experience ‘weird and creepy’ and contacted police.
Sergeant Daniel Campbell said his police department has never come across an incident like it. Nate said he felt the need to share the bizarre incident and wrote his story on Facebook.
He said: ‘Today, while I was at work, a stranger entered my house. It’s possible that I forgot to lock the back door, they didn’t break anything while entering.
‘I usually forget to arm my alarm during the day, but unfortunately that also happened, so I don’t have any video, despite having cameras.
‘Ready for the weird part? Not only did they not take anything (that I can find), but the purpose of the visit was to clean my bathrooms and bedrooms.
‘They made the beds, vacuumed the rugs, scrubbed the toilets and left roses.
‘No notes, no creepy arrangements or anything. My best theory at this point is that a housekeeping service accidentally went to the wrong address.
Police said there are currently no suspects.
