Group offers free medical to 100 Almajiri in Plateau

About 100 almajiri benefited from a free medical outreach carried out by a non-governmental organization, Almajiri Child Rights Initiative (ACRI) in Plateau state.

Daily Trust reports that the outreach was carried out at the Palace of the Village Head of Narkuta in Jos North local government area of the state.

The Plateau state Coordinator of the organization, Dr Ahmad Sani Bala, disclosed that the 100 almajiri were treated of diseases which included scabies, helminthiasis and ringworm, among others.

Dr Bala further said that drugs and health education were given to the 100 almajirai that were treated.

He said, “Other items included tooth brushes, tooth pastes, bathing soaps, sponges and new clothes were given to the Almajiri children.”

Dr Bala added that the aim of the medical outreach was to identify with the almajiri children and draw the attention of the appropriate authorities to their predicament which included poverty, hunger, lack of decent accommodation, poor health care and lack of formal education.

Dr Bala also called on the government and all relevant authorities to as a matter of urgency address the plight of almajiri children, “by doing so it’ll enhance their living conditions and also make it easier for the nation as a whole to attain the Sustainable development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2030.”
