Court restrains Bauchi govt from awarding N4.5bn SUBEB contract

A Bauchi state High Court has restrained the state government from awarding a contract amounting to N4.5billion by the state’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The restraining order was given by Justice S. I. Zadawa through an order of interim injunction.

The order was granted following a suit filed by the Body of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience and Bauchi Assembly of Youths Political Actors.

In the suit number BA/113/2019, the plaintiffs prayed that court to stop the defendants from awarding the contract saying it is a planned financial trap for the incoming PDP administration of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad.

The suit, signed on behalf of the plaintiffs – Comr. Mukhtar Ismail, Malam Yakubu Adamu and three others, was filed against the Chairman of SUBEB, Governor Mohammed Abubakar, Bauchi State Government and the Commissioner of Justice in Bauchi state as Defendants.

Justice Zadawa ruled that the order of interim injunction is given to restrain the defendants from proceeding with or awarding the contract of N4.5billion or any other amount for that matter pending the hearing and determination of the motion on substantive suit.

The case was adjourned to today (Thursday) for hearing.

It could be recalled that, the Bauchi State SUBEB had about a month ago issued a tender for the renovation and construction of some structures in schools across the state.

The project is a joint intervention being carried out by the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Boards (Bauchi SUBEB).
