Ramadan: Judiciary Muslim women launch Almajirai feeding programme in Plateau

A group under the aegis of Judiciary Muslim Women Association of Plateau State (JMWAPS) has launched an Almajiri feeding programme in the state aimed at reducing the roaming of streets by the Almajirai.

Daily Trust learnt that during the first phase of the programme, the association was able to feed about 208 Almajirai and 45 women living with disabilities in the state.

According to the group, the programme was launched yesterday at the Upper Area Court III, Kasuwar Nama in Jos North local government area of Plateau state.

SPONSOR AD

The President of the association, Hajiya Rahamatu Magaji, said members of the association comprising of judges and judiciary workers have contributed money from their monthly salaries in order to start the feeding programme.

Hajiya Rahamatu noted that very soon the association would start sponsoring the Almajirai from primary school to secondary.

“We started with the feeding programme because Almajirai lack basic needs, they look for food to eat, if their stomach is filled up, they would behave well.

“So after their feeding, we would focus on their formal education, even though we haven’t decided on their numbers, but we would sponsor some of them from primary to secondary school,” she said.
