A Badagry customary court in Lagos has dissolved a 14-year-old marriage due to the wife’s alleged acts of disobedience and extramarital affairs.
The court held it was clear the marriage had broken down irretrievably and it was better to allow both parties go their separate ways.
The petitioner, Mr Akinola Isiaka, a welder who lives at 11, Idowu Ajose Street, Ilepo Araromi Badagry, told the court that his wife, Anifat, wouldn’t abide by his instructions.
Isiaka alleged Anifat was promiscuous as she was always having dates with different men outside the matrimony.
Moreover, he told the court, his wife was not taking care of the children and was always abusing them.
When the matter was reported to her mother, he said, it was to no avail as Anifat wouldn’t change her ways.
Anifat asked for the custody of the children in the union and demanded a refund of N200,000 as cost for a shop she claimed to have built in their residence, which she said Isiaka had sold.
She also demanded that the petitioner should be responsible for the upkeep of the children, including their medical bills.
She also asked the court to compel Isiaka to provide her with accommodation, she said would “manage” a two-bedroom flat.
The court president, Barrister Sikiruudeen Adekola, ordered that the custody of the three children be granted to the petitioner, while the respondent should have unfettered access to them.
