A former Director-General, Kano Geographic Information Systems (KANGIS), Malam Magaji Galadima has been turbaned as Kachallan Kano by the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II.
The Emir’s palace was filled with friends, family members as well as well-wishes adorned in colourful regalia who came from different parts of the country to facilitate with Malam Galadima.
Music and beautiful traditional drums amidst the palace page’s voice praising the Emir and praying filled the air. Men, women and children adorned in their best clothes were seated as they awaited the historic event.
According to a source in the Kano palace, the title of Kachallan Kano, is second to the last in the hierarchy of the emirate council.
At about 10:00am the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II as the traditional processes demands came out and sat down to receive homage from various traditional office holders while the about to be turbaned was taken to a place where the turban processes will be performed.
After the completion of the processes, the newly turbaning Kachalla was taken before the emir to pay his first homage. After that, he was led out to greet well-wishers and also to take his first horse ride as a traditional title holder.
Before his recent title, Malam Galadima held the traditional title of Galadiman Maitsidau in Kano Emirate. He was among some few Kano State indigenes sent to undergo training in broadcasting in the United States in the early 1980s and among the pioneering members of the state-owned City Television (CTV) now Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV).
He served with Rima Radio, Sokoto and NTA, Jos before joining the rested Kano-based newspaper, “The Pen” as a sub-editor. He rose to become the editor of the newspaper before leaving the media. He also studied at the University of Maiduguri and Bayero University, Kano.
