Police nap couple who sold baby for N300,000

Anambra State Police command have arrested a husband and wife who conspired to sell their son for the sum of   N300,000.

According to a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed on Saturday and made available to newsmen in Awka, he said the couple were arrested at about 2pm on Tuesday.

“The   police arrested one Chinonso Anyanwu, 32, and Oluebube Anyawu, 20, of lbiasiegbe village, Imo State who conspired to sell their baby boy for the sum of N300,000.00 to  one Sandra Odimege of Umuezike, Amorka of Ihiala  Local Government Area  of Anambra State,” he said.

He said they were arrested on Tuesday following intelligence report, which the Police detectives attached to Area Command Ihiala  worked upon.

According to Mohammed  the baby has  been recovered in good condition.

He said their case is still under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court.

In another development, Mohammed said on  30th April, 2019 at about 7:15am,Police Patrol Team attached to the Command Federal Highway Patrol arrested     one  armed robbery suspect, John Nwankwo, aged 27, from Okigwe in imo State  at Upper Iweka Onitsha.

According to him, the suspect is among the syndicates specialised in snatching handbags, phones and other valuables from their victims, especially women at Upper Iweka and head bridge in Onitsha.

Exhibits recovered from the him include three expensive handsets of different brands and case still under investigation after which he would be charged to Court.

Meanwhile, on Friday, May,2019 at about 2:15 pm, one Emerole Ikechukwu  from Irete village Owerri reported at Ogidi Police Station that a female Facebook friend lured him from Imo State to Ogidi and  upon arrival at about 1:15pm, the supposed friend directed a bike man who picked and took him to the bush where  he was robbed N7000 at gunpoint.

The victim  was also robbed off his ATM  where N10,000 was withdrawn.

According to Mohammed, following the report, Police detectives attached to Ogidi Division traced and arrested one Abuchi Mba, 23, of Ikenga Ogidi and recovered the victim bag containing his clothes.

He further said following a discreet investigation,  one Ogochukwu Onourah, 27, from Ilongodo, Ogidi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State was  also arrested.

The two suspects have confessed to the crime and effort is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices, he added.
