Wife of the Kaduna State governor, Hadiza El-Rufai has advocated for at least, 50 per cent women representation in the present dispensation.
She said though women have been appointed in position of power, there was still need for more women in government.
Speaking at a farewell luncheon organised in honor of the outgoing female political appointees of governor Nasiru El-Rufai’s administration in Kaduna, she said it was likely that most of the women would be reappointed due to their performances in office.
“Even though women are appointed in position of power, we still need more women because when you look at the population ratio of men and women in Nigeria, it is basically like 50-50 so I do not see any reason why we will not have 50 percent representation. That is what we should aim for”.
The governor’s wife thanked the women who served the government, saying they had made women generation very proud.
“When you give a woman a chance, she can excel but when the women lack the opportunity, their capability is hidden”.
She called on women to always cooperate with one another so as to achive greater sucess.
On her part, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, Commissioner, Kaduna State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, expressed appreciation for the opportunity given to her to serve as commissioner in this administration.
She commended the govenor for believing in them to serve in that capacity, “if you dont have a leader who believes in you, we woudn’t have been where we are today”.
