FUOYE student in court for alleged possession of Indian hemp

A student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ishola Oluwaferanmi, was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court yesterday for alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the court that the 23-year-old student committed the offence on April 17, 2019 in Oye-Ekiti.

Okunade alleged that Oluwaferanmi was caught on the campus with five wraps of Indian hemp by the university security officials, who handed him over to the police.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

Oluwaferanmi pleaded not guilty.

The counsel to the defendant, Mr Tunde Olayemi, urged the court to grant his client bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000, with one credible surety in like sum.

Adegboye adjourned the case till May 24, 2019 for hearing.
