The Taraba police command has said that Jalingo metropolis is not under the siege of kidnappers as reported by national dailies.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Taraba command DSP David Misal, in a statement, said it was not true that about 20 persons were kidnapped in the last few weeks in Jalingo town as reported.
The PPRO stated that records of kidnapping incidences in Jalingo town available to the command were seven and all the persons kidnapped were rescued by the police.
He said however, that some of the cases reported by the paper were not kidnapping but rather abduction.
He acknowledged that some cases were not reported to the police.
Meanwhile, two persons were abducted in Jalingo metropolis in the last three days.
Those abducted were a Deputy registrar of Taraba state University Jalingo, Mallam Sanusi Saad, who was abducted at his residence inside the University midnight Monday and Director of works, College of Education Zing, Mallam Usaini Manaja who was also abducted in the night in his residence at Kantiyal area of the metropolis.
Similarly, a large scale farmer, Mallam Abdu Hamza was abducted on his farm at Nanguru Gassol local government area of the state on Sunday.
